The eastern gate was called “Porta San Pietro” because it led to the pieve of San Pietro a Gropina. It later became known as “Porta Campana,” after the town’s bell was moved there following the collapse of that of San Niccolò, and also as “Porta al Mulino,” because the road leading from it branched near the municipal mill: one branch went toward Loro, while the other, crossing two bridges over the Ciuffenna and the Roviggiani (or Righiggiani) stream and following the Ascione valley, led to La Cicogna and Campogialli, in the direction of Arezzo.
