The “Porta di San Bartolomeo,” also called “Porta San Biagio,” was so named because it stood near the quarters of Pozzo and Mori. It was also known as “Porta Fiorentina” and opened on the western side of the walls. From it started the road (today’s Via Guido Monaco), which first reached the Ciuffenna near the Ponticino, then crossed the stream heading toward the Arno and, after a ford, continued toward Montevarchi along what is now Via Fonte Moschetta. In the mid-nineteenth century, a new road was built that crossed the Ciuffenna at Ponte Mocarini and continued straight to the new bridge over the Arno, constructed by a company founded and chaired by Baron Bettino Ricasoli.
