Dating back to the founding of the terra nuova, the Hospital of the Poor was administered by a spedalingo (warden) appointed by the parish of San Niccolò a Ganghereto. It stood directlyopposite the façade of that parish church on Via Fazia, as recorded by an 18th-century inscriptioncommemorating its restoration.
